[on Jack Nicholson] Jack had a great sense of humor. He still does. He`s crazy and a beautiful guy. I always think it`s nice when somebody who`s paid his dues, like Jack, makes it. But he hasn`t really changed much.

Frank [Sinatra] took me to a whole new planet. I worked with him until he passed away in `98. He left me his ring. I never take it off. Now, when I go to Sicily, I don`t need a passport. I just flash my ring.
Quincy Jones
When I finish an album and I find myself listening to it in the car, because it makes me feel a certain way, that`s the time to try to let other people know about it.
Herb Alpert
There`s a fine line between heartbreak and love. It`s a compliment when someone tells me my music put them in a place when where they were almost in tears.
Chris Botti
The reaction to this album has just been fabulous around the world... and I`ve had offers to perform from around the world and I`m tempted to do it. I`ve got itchy lips.
Herb Alpert
The biggest reward from that record was the enthusiasm everyone had to sing on it. The Grammy nominations and the chart positions are great, but ultimately the way you interact with other musicians is the most important thing to me.
Chris Botti
Television is so influential that when an audience sees you day-in and day-out there`s a certain acceptance that sets in; you`re no longer a threatening personality. They become more willing to accept whatever you present.
Doc Severinsen
Selfishly, I make music for me. I like to make music. I like looking for songs. I like working with interesting musicians. I like producing records. It`s something I will always do.
Herb Alpert
Personally, I think young musicians need to learn to play more than one style. Jazz can only enhance the classical side, and classical can only enhance the jazz. I started out playing classical, because you have to have that as a foundation.
Doc Severinsen
Now I`m having the time of my life being on the road with one of the world`s all-time great big bands, and performing with symphonies. I wouldn`t trade it for anything.
Doc Severinsen
It`s - as opposed to tape where you have a magnetic tape that`s excited by frequencies that you hit, digital was a process where musical sounds are transferred to numbers and stored as numbers.
Herb Alpert
If you look at a record under a microscope, the high frequencies are short jagged edges... and the low frequencies are long swinging ones are deep bass sounds. When it cut it at half speed, you`re getting more of those on the record.
Herb Alpert
I`m an old-timer in the business from the sense that when you do something that you feel good about there might be another person out there who feels the same way, or a hundred or a couple million.
